E071: The More We Train

“That’s why the philosophers warn us not to be satisfied with mere learning, but to add practice and then training. For as time passes we forget what we learned and end up doing the opposite, and hold opinions the opposite of what we should.” – Epictetus

In This Episode, We Get Stoic About:

In 1980, Marcinko hand selected an elite group of Navy SEALs and other special operations personnel and instituted an intensive six month training regimen to bring the unit online. Over the next three years, under Marcinko's leadership, they developed into one of the most effective counterterrorism units in the world.

To create his unit, Marcinko emphasized the importance of training under conditions that closely resembled real-world situations. He detailed his tactics in his book Rogue Warrior, and you have no doubt heard some of his pearls of wisdom from your own instructors, such as “Train like you fight, fight like you train,” or “The more you sweat in training, the less you bleed in combat.”

We talk about the importance of training for life on today’s podcast!
